Gathright Christmas ABCs



(Otherwise titled "26 random things about the Gathrights)

A is for Alexandria. Near D.C., our new city.

B is for Bellehaven. We find it quite pretty.

C is for Census Bureau. Employment, yippie!
D is for Dogwood. Our lovely state tree.

E is for exercise. By the river we bike.

F is for Fall. Vivid hues and the like.

G is for George. Living near Washington's home,

H is for history. 'Long famous paths we can roam.

I is for ice cream. Our favorite treat.
J is for jelly sandwiches. Lizzie thinks them quite neat.

K is for khaki. What Audrey does sport.
L is for Lizzie. In swimsuits or skorts.

M is for museum. We love that they're free.

N is for nature and natural history.

O is for orchestra. Where Val plays her flute.

P is for patience. 'Till our labors bear fruit.

Q is for quiet. That the woods here provide.
R is for reserve. Where the wildlife reside.

S is for Savior. Whose love sets us free.

T is for truths. Of eternity.

U is for umbrella. For all of the rain,
V is for Virginia. Lush verdure we gain.

W is for wishful. To see friends and family.

X is for the comic "XKCD."

Y is for You. Our loved ones, our friends.
Z is for zillions. Of warm wishes, we send.

Wow -- that was too fun! You fit so many meaningful family tidbits into a rhyme scheme as well as the ABC-acrostic, but it didn't feel forced. You kept it flowing so beautifully as you told us your family's story of life on the East Coast. I loved it. Merry Christmas, Val!
